Reviews Chicken/Home Fries single 2002 "A unique slice of dancefloor jazz, produced by Tommy Chase and Rick Hudson & The Boogaloo Band, Chicken is as infectious as the plague yet funkier than Donald Byrds pants. Whilst I prefer the A side, the flip is equally exciting; Home Fries delivers the funkiest boogaloo hooks in blue note tradition." James Starling, Funk-me.com Dance for Daddy 2002 The Boogaloo Band is led by Drummer Rick Hudson joined by Simon Rushbrook - Bass & Booga – guitar taking care of business in the rhythm section. Out front is the dual horn assault of Julian Landymore Tenor Sax & Neil Waters - Trumpet. If you shut your eyes & think of a fantasy line up of Donald Byrd & Hank Mobley with Art Blakey on drums playing soul jazz. Well now open them, ‘cos now you have the Boogaloo Band – all you need. 01/12/07 Drummer Magazine UK Maybe East Anglia based Quintet Loose Juice were being ironic when they named there band but their blend of funk, jazz and Brazilian music sounds tight enough to me.The rhythm team of drummer Rick Hudson the bassist Tiago Coimbra lock in from the opening medium funk of 'Shake' to the more up tempo closer 'Down with it' while the Brazilian flavored 'Lovely' and the more laid back groove of 'Mermaid' add contrast to the predominantly funk material. An enjoyable debut. |
